Welcome to the The Gamelan Council -- the short name of the Asia-Pacific Microfinance, Public Health & Development Centre.

The Gamelan Council is an international non-governmental, non-profit initiative dedicated to developing cutting-edge, innovative approaches to managing microfinance, public health, and development ventures throughout the Asia-Pacific region.  For these purposes, it defines the "Asia-Pacific" region broadly (in line with APEC), ensuring the participation and involvement of key geographies, cultures, and peoples.

Like many international agencies, governmental initiatives, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the Gamelan Council envisages international development as a set of multifaceted, multilayered processes.  These processes, however, have two fundamental strands: (a) developing effective economies and (b) advancing public health.

The Gamelan Council sees these two strands initimately intertwined and mutually reinforcing--and believes that one cannot exist without the other.

The following pages outline the Gamelan Council's key activities, where the Gamelan Council focuses its efforts, who comprises the Gamelan Council, the Gamelan Council's history, and how to contact the Gamelan Council with additional queries or for additional information.  Since these pages will continue evolving and developing over time, we encourage you to return to read more about the Gamelan Council and its ongoing efforts.

We look forward to seeing you again soon!
